Royal Caribbean plans new $300m 'shipshape' headquarters

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is planning to build a new office and parking garage to the south of its current location on Dodge Island at PortMiami, The Miami Herald reports.

This would enable the company to expand its on-site workforce from 2,200 to 4,200.

RCL CFO Jason Liberty told the Herald the new headquarters would help attract 'the best talent in the world.'

HOK design resembles a ship

New York architecture firm HOK created a design in the shape of a ship.

The Herald said Royal Caribbean plans to spend at least $300m on the project and hopes to have the new facility ready by October 2020 and the renovations to its existing buildings completed by fall 2021.

Miami-Dade County commissioners are to vote on the plan in May.
