Severn Trent's OMNIPURE Series 55/64 wastewater systems win USCG final certification

Severn Trent's OMNIPURE Series 55/64 wastewater systems win USCG final certification
The new OMNIPURE Series 55/64 marine sewage treatment systems from Severn Trent De Nora have received final certification from the United States Coast Guard to the IMO’s Resolution MEPC.227(64) effluent standards.

Currently, only a limited number of marine wastewater treatment technologies meet the new MEPC.227(64) standard, which enters into force January 1, 2016.

Certification of the OMNIPURE Series 55/64 by the USCG involved testing rigorous environmental standards above and beyond IMO requirements.

Severn Trent De Nora claims OMNIPURE Series 55/64 systems are the only marine sewage treatment systems that oxidize sewage in an electrochemical cell as well as generate sodium hypochlorite for the disinfection of the sewage streams.

The OMNIPURE series utilizes an advanced electrolytic process for effective treatment of both black and gray water, producing wastewater effluent quality well below the new MEPC.227(64) requirements.

John Dyson, commercial manager for Severn Trent De Nora’s OMNIPURE product calls the system ‘a leap forward in operating effectiveness and efficiency.’

He added, ‘They are designed not only to effectively meet the most stringent global effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants, but to ensure operator health and safety as well. The systems produce an effluent that is clean and clear, while presenting customers with a proven, safe method of handling solids. The process offers two options to produce dry, dewatered solids that can be easily handled and disposed of.’

The OMNIPURE Series 55/64 systems provide operational benefits such as a small footprint, light weight, ease of installation and automatic removal of concentrated solids in situ to the treatment process.

The systems have Bureau Veritas certification for IMO Resolution MEPC.227(64) and also comply with the EU Marine Equipment Directive as indicated by the MED wheelmark of conformity.
