Carnival Breeze and its key officers star in the 'Science Works!' segment
Carnival Breeze stars in a segment of 'Science Works!', a new Science Channel show that explores cool, unlikely jobs that use science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.

The show visits Capt. Massimo Marino on the bridge to learn about satellite navigation and how technology controls stability. Chief Engineer Fabien Gervaise talks about the power needed to propel the ship and provide the electricity for the hotel plant (72 MW generated for 100,000 horsepower, 60% for propulsion and the rest for everything else).

And Hotel Director Danir Mrsic delves into staffing needs for room cleaning, data for meal planning and some of the shipboard jobs using STEM skills—IT officer, accounting department, food operations manager, the casino.

Rick Miller, vp nautical and safety operations, Carnival Cruise Line, talks about fuel usage, water needs (300,000 gallons a day) and potable water production (700,000 galllons a day and carrying capacity for up to 2m gallons).

'Science Works!' debuted last week and will air at 8 a.m. EST every Friday throughout February and March.

The series is created and produced by Award Productions, a Boston-based TV production company focused on educational and promotional programming. Science Channel is a unit of Discovery Communications.
