The ice rink, around 40mtr up on Deck 16, was formally inaugurated by skating duo Salomé Casabona Studer and Peter Turner, who appear in the latest Holiday on Ice show, Believe.
The live performance also marked the start of a long-term partnership between the show and AIDA. Until mid-March 2017 guests aboard AIDAprima can partake in Holiday on Ice workshops.
The opening of the 200sq mtr ice rink took place on Saturday whilst the ship was in homeport Hamburg.
The rink, which offers skating, Bavarian curling, and ice disco activities, took just under a week to install.
During the period leading up to Christmas and across the festive season the rink becomes the centrepiece of a traditional Christmas market serving mulled wine, gingerbread, cookies and stollen cake. Shore excursions feature land-based Christmas markets such as in Bruges, Ghent and Brussels.
