Sponson installation resumes at Concordia wreck

Sponson installation resumes at Concordia wreck
The installation of sponsons needed to refloat Costa Concordia resumed at Giglio following authorization by the Monitoring Observatory. There had been a delay in the work while further documentation was provided to the authorities.

During Monday night, workers completed the installation of starboard sponson S11, according to The Parbuckling Project. This is the third of the 19 sponsons to be installed.

Twelve sponsons are still to go on the starboard side and four on the port side of the wreck. On Wednesday technicians are scheduled to start operations on the fourth starboard sponson, S10.

In parallel, work continues to complete the documentation requested by the Monitoring Observatory and will be provided as soon as possible, Costa Crociere and Titan Micoperi said.

More than 350 technicians are working around the clock on the wreck removal operations. Of those, more than 120 are divers.
