Accepting the Award were Arnaud Jacques, energy efficiency manager Harmony class, STX France and Simon Zielonka, director RCCL marine operation, UK operations.
They were amongst over 300 personalities from the global maritime industry who gathered to honour oustanding achievements at the 29th Seatrade Awards.
The STX/Royal joint entry centred on the world's largest passenger ship Harmony of the Seas, which went into service in 2016.
A team effort between the builder and owner, the ship combines innovative design with technological advancements, making the cruise vessel more than 20% (daily fuel consumption/passenger) more efficient than older STX-built sister, Allure of the Seas, they cited in the entry.
Comprised of 89 energy efficiency initiatives, it was not one major improvement that drove the fuel savings but rather the holistic approach which evaluated and addressed every function on board: propulsion, hull design, power generation, energy recovery, machinery, hotel and HVAC, STX and RCI wrote in their citation.
Other finalists in the Fuel Efficiency category were: ABB, APL, DNV-GL, Eniram and NRG Marine Ltd.
