American Song, the first modern-style riverboat in US history, has successfully completed sea trials and is now on its way to New Orleans.

Oct. 6 inaugural cruise

The American Cruise Lines vessel is expected to arrive at the Big Easy the first week in September, well ahead of its inaugural cruise to Memphis on Oct. 6.

American Song will operate a full schedule of eight-day Lower Mississippi River cruises throughout the remainder of 2018 and then will reposition to the West Coast in 2019, for Columbia and Snake rivers cruises beginning in March.

This is the second newbuild, following coastal ship American Constitution, delivered to American Cruise Lines by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in 2018.

American Harmony, the second riverboat in the modern-style series, is scheduled for delivery in first quarter 2019.
