'Jim made a significant contribution to the success of our company over the years—as well at the industry level through CLIA—and he will be greatly missed,' Carnival Corp. spokesman Roger Frizzell said.
Border joined Carnival in 1989 after tax positions with Pricewaterhouse, Hasbro and Cordis. He also had consulted for Arthur Young. He is a certified public accountant and an attorney who is licensed to appear as an advocate before the Florida Supreme Court and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Border chaired the global tax committee for Cruise Lines International Association and the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation.
A Carnival successor has not been named.
