Thomson Spirit's charter to Thomson Cruises will now end October 2018
Thomson Cruises’ longest serving ship, Thomson Spirit, is staying in the UK operator's fleet for another year, as a result of overwhelming popular customer demand.

Celestyal Cruises confirmed a one-year extension of the Thomson Spirit charter to Thomson Cruises of TUI Travel plc for the 2018 season.

Thomson Spirit has been chartered to Thomson since May 2003; per the terms of the charter, the ship will operate as a Thomson Cruises vessel until October 2018 with all services provided by Celestyal Cruises through its wholly owned ship management subsidiary, Optimum Ship Management Services SA.

The vessel which was due to sail for the final time in November this year, will be based in Palma in April 2018, before moving to Malaga in May 2018.

'When we announced that Thomson Spirit would be sailing with us for the last time this year we were overwhelmed by the response,' said Thomson Cruises' md Richard Sofer.

'Our customers really love Thomson Spirit – it’s the longest serving member of our fleet and has a really homely feel, being one of our smallest ships,' he added.

Extending her service means passengers will be able to visit the West Med big city favourites like Rome, Barcelona and Lisbon, as well as lesser-known Spanish gems like Tarragona, Mahon and Roses, he remarked.

'The extension of the Thomson Spirit charter is yet another endorsement of the quality of services and a testament to the trust TUI Travel plc and other global tourism leaders have in Celestyal Cruises,' said company ceo Kyriakos Anastassiadis.

'We’re pleased that the Spirit is so popular with passengers in the UK market. Thomson Cruises has been a trusted, valued partner for over two decades, and we look forward to extending our relationship further, he continued.

Summer 2018 Thomson Spirit itineraries will go on sale on July 27 and customers will receive a free All Inclusive upgrade for a limited time.

Thomson Spirit’s last cruise in the Thomson fleet will set sail on October 21, 2018.

Thomson Cruises fleet comprises Thomson Dream, Thomson Majesty, Thomson Celebration, Thomson Spirit, TUI Discovery and TUI Discovery 2, which joined this summer.
