Windstar's Delaney is hitting the waves to show 'Caribbean is open'

Windstar Cruises president John Delaney wants to help after the recent hurricanes by witnessing, in person, that San Juan and the Caribbean are open for business. As a show of support, he'll be sailing on Windstar’s first cruise departing from San Juan this season, on Nov. 25.

'Although areas of the Caribbean are still rebuilding after the recent hurricanes, so much of the Caribbean is open and welcoming visitors to their wondrous islands,' Delaney said. 'Travelers should not be concerned about beginning or ending a cruise in San Juan, where the cruise terminal has been operational for weeks, along with the airport.'

Delaney plans to arrive the day before his cruise to spend time in Old San Juan, giving updates on his Twitter account, and sharing first-person stories on Windstar’s Facebook page.

To encourage travelers' return to the tropics, Windstar is offering a 'Caribbean Is Open Cruise Package' with significant savings, a $200 shipboard credit and free on-board Wi-Fi, with rates starting at $1,499 per person.

For travel agents, Windstar is giving extra incentive with a Caribbean 'Take 5' offer. Agents who book five staterooms or suites on any Caribbean voyage get a free cruise.

With its small ships Windstar can avoid crowded waterfronts and deliver travelers to the more intimate ports of call, contributing to the greater economy of the region. For example, the line just announced it will visit Anse Mitan in Martinique and Deshaies in Guadeloupe.

'We also do things many travelers think are long gone, like our open bridge policy, private beach barbecue experiences and a water sports platform to jump right into the blue waters the Apollo astronauts swooned over from space,' Delaney said.

New 'Star Collector Voyages' in the Caribbean stretch 14 days with the perk of free daily laundry service. Additionally, Windstar added its popular 'Jewels of the Windward Islands' itinerary to its 2017/18 Caribbean program. A 'fan favorite' of past passengers, the cruise sails to St. Lucia and little-known isles that are off the tourist radar, like Bequia in the Grenadines.
