Carnival Dream assists in rescuing 17 from capsized boat

Carnival Dream crew helped rescue 17 people stranded in the Belize Channel Wednesday after their boat capsized.

The Carnival Cruise Line ship was heading for Cozumel when officers spotted the overturned boat.

Carnival Dream Capt. Francesco Fiorentino’s officers and alerted the Belize Coast Guard, lowered a shipboard tender into the water in conjunction with local Belize tenders, and helped to safely recover all 17 people.

Everyone was found in good condition before a transfer with the Belize Coast Guard was coordinated.

Carnival Dream then resumed its voyage to Cozumel as scheduled. The ship departed Galveston May 14 on a six-day cruise.
