Cruisers can bid for a better stateroom in 'Princess Upgrade' program

Princess cruisers experiencing stateroom envy, wishing they had booked more elevated accommodations, can soon bid up as part of the cruise line’s new 'Princess Upgrade' program.

This bid-based system, in partnership with PlusGrade, gives passengers the opportunity to secure an upgrade to ocean-view, balcony, deluxe balcony, mini-suite and suite.

Starting Sept. 6, upgrades will be available initially on five North America-based ships — Caribbean Princess, Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess, Regal Princess and Ruby Princess — with plans to roll out fleetwide by the end of October.

How it works

Here's how Princess Upgrade works: Once the sailing is within the final payment period and full payment has been made, passengers will receive an invitation to take part in the program and submit a bid. They can bid on any higher stateroom category. They can change or cancel their bid any time before it is accepted.

If passengers miss the Princess Upgrade invitation e-mail, there will be a link on princess.com so they can initiate the process without going through the e-mail.
