On Monday Cunard launched a television commercial to coincide with the start of the 2023 Australian Open tennis tournament that celebrates the company’s return Down Under after two and a half years.

It features Australian entertainer Delta Goodrem, wearing a flowing gown in Cunard red, singing ‘Waltzing Matilda’ on the bow of Queen Elizabeth as the ship sails into Sydney Harbour.

Goodrem is accompanied by a string quartet and flanked by officers and Cunard’s iconic bellboys wearing their Akubra hats.

'Magical moment’

‘I’ve performed in many locations around the world but performing on the bow of Queen Elizabeth as she sailed through Sydney Harbour was one of my highlights,’ Goodrem said. ‘As we neared the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, performing "Waltzing Matilda" was truly a magical moment.’

‘We wanted to show our Australian audience how special Australia is for Cunard,’ VP Commercial for North America and Australasia Matt Gleaves said.

One of the most iconic commercials

Gleaves said the commercial, produced and directed by the creative director and photographic consultant for Getty Images, James D. Morgan, is ‘one of the most iconic our brand has ever produced.’

Record homeporting

All three Cunard ships — Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria — are scheduled to sail in Australian waters during the 2022/23 local summer season with Queen Elizabeth homeporting in Sydney and Melbourne for a record 121 days.
