Grand desserts, special champagne toasts and festivities for passengers and crew are part of Holland America Line's 149th anniversary today.

Though transportation and shipping were the mainstays of its business in the 19th century, the company began to offer cruises in 1895. Today, Holland America fields 11 ships that visit nearly 400 ports across all seven continents.

Ship restarts continue

Ship restarts through early June continue with Noordam (April 24), Oosterdam (May 8), Zaandam (May 12) and Westerdam (June 12), bringing the entire fleet back into service.

Rotterdam's naming May 30

In addition, naming festivities for the new Rotterdam, delivered last July, are planned for May 30 in its namesake city in the Netherlands with Princess Margriet serving as the godmother. This is part of the May 29 weeklong cruise from Amsterdam to Norway.

75 years in Alaska

In 2022, Holland America also marks 75 years of Alaska exploration.

'As Holland America Line moves closer to the 150th anniversary of our founding, these past couple of years have shown us the importance of celebrating our milestones,' Holland America President Gus Antorcha said. 'This April is an important month with Holland America Line leading the return to Canadian cruising, the restart of Noordam and our anniversaries of our founding and travel to Alaska.'
