The Massachusetts Port Authority board approved Michael Meyran to become port director, overseeing all maritime business areas.

Meyran has been with Massport for more than a decade as a deputy port director and has been serving as acting port director since Lisa Wieland took over as CEO in August.

Meyran will lead business planning and development, strategic initiatives, financial management and the safety and security and day-to-day oversight of Massport’s maritime division. He also will ensure the completion of several major initiatives already in motion, such as the Boston Harbor Dredging Project, the delivery of three new ship-to-shore cranes and the completion of a new berth at Conley Container Terminal.

Boosted port's competitiveness

Meyran has been instrumental in making the port more competitive, Wieland said. He brought deep private sector experience in terminal management when he joined Massport 12 years ago, having worked in Europe and at the United States’two largest ports, Los Angeles and Long Beach. As deputy port director, he helped increase productivity, drive growth in container and cruise businesses, and foster strong relationships with labor partners and tenants.

Before joining Massport, Meyran served as senior general manager of operations for APMT corporate headquarters in the Netherlands, working on global terminal development and startups. Prior to that, he was general manager of operations at APM Terminals/A.P. Moller-Maersk in both Los Angeles and Long Beach. At Massport, he has served as a deputy port director in charge of operations since 2007.

The search firm Shey Harding advised Massport on the recruitment for the port director position.
