830th Hamburg Port Anniversary welcomes more than a million visitors

The 830th Hamburg Port Anniversary welcomed more than a million visitors across Friday to Sunday celebrating in glorious sunshine for most of the time.

They enjoyed activities and the atmosphere around Landungs¬brücken, the Speicherstadt historic warehouse district, HafenCity, the Fish Market, and Oevelgönne Museum Harbour.

Highlights include open-ship visits

Highlights included open-ship tours on many of the 300 or so ships at the festival, live transmission of a concert by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter from the Elbphilharmonie, and the premiere of the Hamburg Active City Championships in HafenCity. The region of Occitania-Southern France made an impressive presentation as country partner.

AIDA Fireworks

Traditional highlights included the Grand Arrival Parade and the Grand Departure Parade, the Tugboat Ballet, and the big AIDA Firework Display on Saturday evening.

Ship stars included tall ships such as Kruzenshtern, Mir, Sedov, Alexander von Humboldt II, and lovingly restored museum ships. The open-ship events were very popular with adults and children, and 70,000 visitors took the opportunity to take a look at life on-board.

Hamburg is the venue for Seatrade Europe Cruise and River Cruise Convention coming up this year with its 10th edition taking place from September 11-13. Newly launched and co-located with the event is MARINE INTERIORS Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, powered by SMM and in partnership with Seatrade Cruise.
