In a special edition, Cruise Week reported Adonia is expected to be replaced by a Carnival Cruise Line Fantasy-class ship that would sail to Cuba but not the Dominican Republic, as Adonia does every other week.
Carnival Corp. spokesman Roger Frizzell didn't address the brand or ship, but told Seatrade Cruise News the company plans to continue sailing to Cuba for many years to come, based on the success of its first voyages there with Adonia.
Other sources with knowledge of the matter said a Fantasy-class ship is indeed under consideration.
As for Fathom's social impact product, that's based on volunteering to help community efforts in the Dominican Republic, distinct from the people-to-people cruises to Cuba.
Frizzell noted the Fathom experience has been expanded across Carnival Corp. brands sailing to the Dominican Republic and beyond. As earlier reported, starting this month passengers on six other lines calling at Amber Cove can purchase a social impact excursion, just as they would buy a traditional shore excursion.
Those lines are Carnival, AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises.
