Pacific Explorer sails from Sydney on a 16-night cruise to Norfolk Island on October 18
P&O Cruises Australia’s 77,000gt Pacific Explorer is shown anchored off Norfolk Island on a new A$2 stamp issued by Australia Post.

The stamp highlights Norfolk Island’s historic connection with the company that is celebrating its 85th birthday.

First P&O cruise from Sydney was in 1932 to Norfolk Island

P&O’s first cruise out of Sydney was made by the luxurious 23,000gt Strathaird on December 23, 1932, when she sailed on a five-night voyage to Norfolk Island.

P&O Cruises Australia’s president Sture Myrmell, who is also president of Carnival Australia, said it is a great honour for Pacific Explorer, the flagship of Australia’s home-brand cruise line, to be the first P&O ship to feature on an Australia Post stamp.

‘It is a perfect combination of Pacific Explorer, a ship that Australian cruise guests have taken to their hearts and Norfolk Island, a destination that is so welcoming to visitors. with tourism a mainstay of the island’s economy,’ Myrmell said.
