Carnival Vista will be out of service 17 days for Azipod repairs

The issue is associated with the bearings in one of the ship’s two Azipods. Carnival Vista has been operating a revised itinerary the last two sailings to accommodate its reduced speed capability. Carnival Cruise Line said safety is not impacted.

Carnival is working with Azipods manufacturer ABB to facilitate the repairs. Following the completion of the July 1 sailing, Carnival Vista will transit to a drydock facility to replace all four bearings on the two Azipods.

Grand Bahama Shipyard is not available due to the drydock accident there in April.

June 22 and June 29 sailings revised

The seven-day cruise scheduled to depart June 22 from Galveston will now be an eight-day cruise departing June 23, returning July 1.

The cruise scheduled for June 29 will now depart July 1 and will be a similar eight-day cruise. After the July 1 saling, Carnival Vista will be taken out of service for 17 days to reposition and complete the required repairs. As a result, the July 6, July 13 and July 20 cruises are canceled.

Credits or refunds

Passengers on the June 23 and July 1 departures will receive an on-board credit and a 50% future cruise credit. Those who elect not to travel will get a full refund and a 50% future cruise credit.

Passengers on the canceled sailings will receive a full refund of their cruise fare and a 100% future cruise credit. All passengers with airfare change fees and related expenses associated with new itineraries or canceled trips will be reimbursed.

The ship will return to service on July 27.

Carnival Corp. estimates the voyage disruptions will impact 2019 earnings by 8 cents to 10 cents per share.
