So said Key West City Manager Jim Scholl at a City Commission meeting this week, according to The Miami Herald.
Heavy winds
The dolphin was damaged on Nov. 27 when a Silversea Cruises ship struck it in heavy winds. The 39,400gt Silver Spirit had cast off to depart and was initiating a turn to head out when gusts pushed it back against the dolphin and the pier.
The incident was captured on video.
Silver Spirit unscathed
The ship was not damaged, Silversea Cruises said in a statement, and subsequently was cleared to sail by the Coast Guard. Scholl reportedly told the City Commission that Silversea would be paying for the mooring dolphin repairs.
Key West, one of the Caribbean's busiest cruise destinations, has two other docking sites for passenger ships.
Earlier this year, the 2009-built Silver Spirit was cut in half, lengthened and updated at Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily.
