It’s the captain's first ship 'stretch' in 40-plus years in the maritime sector. He's had more than 15 years in command of cruise ships and ro-ro passenger ferries, including serving as chief officer on Star Pride, in line to be lengthened following Star Breeze and Star Legend.
‘It’s such an amazing, fantastic project to be a part of,’ Bailey said, adding that the $250m Star Plus Initiative is a career highlight.
Documentation and compliance
His involvement is project management for documentation and compliance. Because Star Breeze will be so dramatically changed, Bailey will be ensuring that all systems and documentation related to environmental and safety matters is updated.
‘There are so many things to pull together so when it leaves here, it will have improved the ship but also the safe operations of the ship. We’re going to make sure everything is right,’ he said.
The Nautical Institute
Bailey, who also serves as MD of Seatag Safety Systems and of YG Consultants, is a longtime member and VP of The Nautical Institute, an NGO with consultative status at the International Maritime Organisation whose aim is to represent seafarers' and practical maritime professionals' views at the highest level.
