Ellis will be taking the job in Carnival's corporate Maritime Policy & Analysis group under vp John Haeflinger that was previously held by Chris Donald, who now heads the company's Corporate Environmental Compliance department.
He'll be responsible for assessing and improving marine and technical safety and occupational health and safety for more than 100 ships across 10 brands.
At Royal Caribbean Ellis was responsible for the maritime safety standards of 47 ships across seven brands.
Before Royal Caribbean, Ellis spent 20 years with Carnival Corp. & plc, in roles including director, port development, and newbuilds and special projects director for Cunard Line, which included the construction of Queen Mary 2. He also was vp marine and technical operations at Seabourn.
A captain, Ellis started at sea as a cadet and had a long stint with Cunard, first on the ships before assuming shoreside posts.
