Zadar is located on Croatia’s Adriatic coast and the new port area of Gazanica, 3.5km south of the city, welcomed its first cruise ship in July 2014. It caters to any size vessel and is linked to a motorway network providing rapid access to Zadar Airport, Zagreb and the rest of Croatia and central Europe.
A new two-storey terminal opens this year and the port infrastructure offers 1,170mtr of total berthing with a maximum draft of 13mtr.
The GPH concession covers the cruise and passenger port and terminal services, an international ferry terminal, ro-ro services, vehicles and passenger services. It contains a commercial area of 2,400sqm, with leasable retail and office space.
MedCruise member, Zadar is expecting around 140 calls and 160-170,000 cruise passengers this year, up from 137,667 cruise visitors in 2016. Zadar’s fortified city walls and gates are listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage sites.
The signing of the concession agreement is subject to both parties’ agreement on its terms, and the signing is expected to occur within 12 months although there is no certainty on the timing of the completion and final terms, noted GPH.
