The news was confirmed by Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises' executive chairman, during Seatrade Cruise Global. Vago spoke at a news conference with MSC Cruises USA chairman Rick Sasso and president Roberto Fusaro and company ceo Gianni Onorato.
Vago reiterated MSC's increased focus on North America and said 'We are going to be mainstream in cruise, too', referring to the cruise division's parent Mediterraean Shipping Company, the largest shipping line in North America.
Vago confirmed that last year MSC carried 1.8m passengers worldwide and, by 2026, its annual carrying capacity will triple to 5m.
Onorato called the four new LNG-hybrid World Class newbuilds 'a game-changer,' with more news to be revealed at a later date.
