This ends long-running litigation between Juneau and the cruise industry by spelling out the acceptable uses for a $5 head tax and $3 per passenger port development fee and how the parties will communicate going forward, without resorting to legal action.
Called a 'win' for all parties
CLIA Alaska president John Binkley called the settlement a 'win for the community and our cruise guests,' adding: 'We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.'
In a statement last week, City Manager Rorie Watt deemed the agreement a 'great solution for CLIA, [the city and borough of Juneau], cruise ship passengers and all Alaskan port communities.'
