Amy Powers - 'the foremost ambassador for cruising at state level in the US,' according to Royal Caribbean's Adam Goldstein
Maine port and cruise industry veteran Amy Powers launched MaineCruisePro, offering the cruise industry and stakeholders her extensive skills and resources in management and strategic planning, with a focus on responsible sustained visitation to the state of Maine and beyond.

Powers co-founded and directed CruiseMaineUSA and was a founding member and immediate past chair of the Cruise Canada/New England Alliance, where she helped drive the launch of an ambitious new long-term strategy.

Powers said she founded MaineCruisePro with the mission of being 'the most professional, creative and helpful cruise industry consulting agency in Maine.' She has nearly 20 years of cruise industry experience.

Maine, the cruise lines and many stakeholders have benefited from Powers' work over the years.

'Amy has been a relentless advocate for her state’s cultivation of the cruise business,' said Adam Goldstein, president and chief operating officer, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. 'In recent years she has been the foremost ambassador for cruising at state level in the US. She is up to speed on everything the industry wants to do in Maine plus she gives us ideas for more advances we could make. Amy has been a real asset to the cruise industry through her leadership of CruiseMaineUSA.'

Powers looks back with satisfaction on numerous accomplishments and highlights, including working to help gain voter approval to secure bonds to build the Ocean Gateway terminal in Portland, working with management at ResidenSea to bring The World to Eastport and then 'watching the awesome people in the port community welcome the ship and owners.' The port won an award from the residents for excellence in customer service.

Other highlights were the arrival of the first large cruise ship, Jewel of the Seas, at Rockland Harbor, and working with Bar Harbor's lobstermen and Holland America Line to put fresh Maine lobster directly on the ship, expanding the cruise industry’s purchases of Maine lobster from that day forward. Maine also had the honor, Powers said, of hosting the Cruise Canada/New England Symposium three times during her tenure at CruiseMaineUSA.

She cited the importance of long-term preparation and local teamwork for the successes.

'Our ports have the hardest working people and I admire what they have all done and will continue to do to improve the local port services and land programs for passengers to enjoy,' Powers said.

Moving forward, she aims to create business opportunities for all stakeholders and maximize her knowledge to 'help address the challenges that arise from the growth that we are experiencing throughout the region. It is vitally important,' Powers added, 'that we focus on maintaining, protecting and preserving the quality of the natural and cultural resources in our cruise destinations; it is these attributes that make the destinations so attractive.'

MaineCruisePro offers consulting services for ports, cruise lines and industry stakeholders in Maine and beyond.
