The Lindblad Expeditions ship had limped back to Ushuaia, Argentina, in late December after experiencing a main engine problem following its departure from the Antarctic Peninsula. The ship returned safely, with no harm to passengers or crew.
The rest of the Antarctica season was scrapped and National Geographic Orion remained in Ushuaia for several weeks until the loading onto Rolldock Storm in late January.
A Lindblad spokeswoman told Seatrade Cruise News the ship is expected to enter the Orskov Yard in Frederikshaven, Denmark, around Feb. 25. There it will undergo engine repairs and complete a scheduled drydock.
National Geographic Orion is still expected to resume its planned post-docking northern Europe schedule in mid-April.
According to Lindblad's website, the 102-passenger ship is due to begin a 14-day circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea on April 19 from Copenhagen.
One year ago Ponant's Le Boréal was transported from Punta Arenas, Chile, to Europe aboard the heavy lift carrier Kang Shen Kou. That vessel underwent repairs in Genoa, Italy, after an engine room fire in November 2015 near Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands.
