Following its inaugural season island-hopping throughout the Caribbean, Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam will cross the pond in late April 2019 and spend the summer and fall in northern Europe and the Mediterranean.

Sailing from Amsterdam in the summer, the ship will offer seven- and 14-day cruises to the Norwegian Fjords, the Baltic, Iceland and North Cape.

In September Nieuw Statendam will head to the Mediterranean on a 12-day cruise from Amsterdam to Civitavecchia (Rome). Three 10-day cruises round-trip from Civitavecchia will explore the eastern and western Mediterranean. The ship then departs Civitavecchia in late October for a 14-day crossing back to Fort Lauderdale.

'By offering nearly six months of cruising in [Europe], we’re able to take the ship from Iceland to Greece and everywhere in between,' HAL president Orlando Ashford said.

Once arriving in Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam will offer two different seven-day itineraries on nine departures from May through September. A longer 14-day Norwegian exploration departs June 9 and July 7, featuring eight ports in Norway while crossing into the Arctic Circle. Scenic cruising of Hardangerfjord, Geirangerfjord, the North Cape and Sognefjord are highlights.

Nieuw Statendam will sail two 14-day Baltic itineraries in May and August, also round-trip Amsterdam. Destinations include Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark; Warnemünde and Kiel, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg (overnight), Russia; Helsinki, Finland; and Stockholm, Sweden.

On Aug. 4 Nieuw Statendam sails on a 14-day British Isles cruise to Newcastle upon Tyne, England; South Queensferry (Edinburgh), Scotland, for an overnight that affords the opportunity to attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo; Reykjavik (overnight), Isafjordur and Akureyri, Iceland; and Ålesund and Bergen, Norway.

In September, Nieuw Statendam heads from Amsterdam to Civitavecchia on a 12-day journey that visits Ireland, Portugal and four ports in Spain. The ship then offers two 10-day cruises round-trip from Civitavecchia to Croatia, Montenegro, Greece and Italy, while another 10-day itinerary includes ports in Spain, Gibraltar, France, Monaco and Italy.

On Oct. 27 the ship repositions to Fort Lauderdale on a crossing that visits Cartagena, Málaga, and Cádiz, Spain; and Ponta Delgada, Azores.
