PortMiami is now closed, while the US Coast Guard intends to set Port Condition Zulu for Hurricane Dorian at Port Everglades as of 6 p.m. Sunday.

This means sustained tropical force winds are expected to reach South Florida within 12 hours. At that time, Port Everglades will be closed to all operations unless approved by the captain of the port.

Canaveral, JAXPORT, Charleston

Further up the coast, Port Canaveral and the Port of Jacksonville are also battening down for Dorian, while the USCG set Port Condition Whiskey for Charleston, which means gale-force conditions could arrive there within 72 hours.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Dorian is now a 'catastrophic' Category 5 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph/295 km/h.
