Four days of training in the Andes, with base camp near Chile’s El Morado Natural Monument
Ahead of the current Antarctica season, 12 members of Silversea’s expedition team spent four days training in the Chilean Andes. Between Oct. 29 and Nov. 3, they took part in activities to build on their skill sets and enable them to enrich the offering for passengers.

Workshops, route-finding, emergency evacuation training

The group's base camp was located near Chile’s El Morado Natural Monument. Training included a challenging high ropes course, snow and ice awareness workshops, route-finding and orienteering sessions, a wilderness medicine refresher and an emergency evacuation scenario. Team-building activities were peppered throughout the program.

Afterward, eight of the participants embarked Silver Explorer ahead of the Antarctica season.

'Pushing the boundaries of expedition cruising'

Kit van Wagner, Silversea’s director of expedition training and staff development, deemed the camp a huge success and said it demonstrates the company's commitment to 'pushing the boundaries of expedition cruising.' This works to enhance the experience for travelers.

For the 2019/20 Antarctica season, Silver Cloud will begin the program Nov. 24 with a 16-day voyage that starts in Buenos Aires and ends in Ushuaia. Then, on Dec. 20, the ship embarks on a 15-day round-trip holiday voyage from Ushuaia.

Silver Explorer will undertake a classic 12-day round-trip from Ushuaia on Feb. 21, 2020.
