Record cruise ship passenger spending in New Zealand

On the eve of the seventh annual New Zealand Cruise Association conference, Stats NZ has released the latest ‘Cruise Ship Traveller Expenditure’ report that shows a 28% hike on the previous year to June 30.

On double-digit passenger increase

Expenditure was NZ$569.8m and the 322,000 passenger count for the year to June 30 was up 24% from 2018.

‘New Zealand has become an incredibly popular destination for international cruise passengers and the financial impact they have reaches deep into the local economy,’ CLIA Australasia & Asia MD Joel Katz said.

Top speakers

It has also been confirmed that New Zealand Associate Minister of Tourism Peeni Henare will speak at NZCA 2019, now set for Auckland’s Aotea Centre August 22-23.

To date the conference, with the theme ‘Shaping The Future,’ has attracted a record number of 230 delegates.

The high-powered guest speaker list includes Adam Goldstein, Ann Sherry, Robert Morgenstern, Susan Bonner, Stuart Allison, Sarina Bratton and Adam Armstrong.
