Interest, but doubts
A recent Royal Caribbean market survey in Singapore found as many as 60% of the respondents indicated they're keen to try cruising, with another 25% replying 'maybe.'
Factors include cruising being perceived as fun, fuss-free and convenient. However, the survey also showed that while consumers consider a cruise holiday, they still may have concerns about costs and getting bored.
Multi-pronged campaign
Royal Caribbean aims to overcome such hesitations with ‘Stop Wondering, Start Wandering,’ to be launched in print, out‐of‐home advertising, radio, television commercial and digital formats.
Playing on the brand's 50th anniversary, the campaign highlights its innovations over the years, including FlowRider, Ripcord by iFly skydiving simulator, on-board zip line, the towering Ultimate Abyss slide, Bionic Bar with robot bartenders and the SkyPad virtual reality bungee trampoline.
Singaporeans have close-to-home cruise options with Voyager of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas, which will both be refurbished by year's end.
Discounts
Deals starting this week include the second guest sailing for just S$50 and kids 11 and younger cruising for free. HSBC credit card holders can get an additional 5% discount.
Cruise choices include Voyager of the Seas’ seven sailings starting Oct. 21 from Singapore. These range from three to five nights to ports such as Phuket, Melaka, Penang and Port Klang (for Kuala Lumpur).
Starting Nov. 16, Quantum of the Seas will be offering 34 sailings over six months. Itineraries include four‐night cruises to Phuket and Port Klang, five‐night cruises to Phuket, Port Klang and Penang and a seven‐night cruise to Laem Chabang (for Bangkok) for an overnight call, and Ho Chi Minh City.
