P&O Cruises’ Oriana kick starts Stavanger’s 2018 cruise season next week, arriving on March 8 from Alta and North Cape, on her return voyage back to homeport Southampton.
This cruise season will be similar to last year with a few more calls, but just a few less passengers, according to Anders Bang-Andersen, director of cruise development.
Last year ended with 181 calls and 340,140 passengers. Only 2013 was busier, he reminds.
Port of Stavanger will be the venue for several big festivals this summer, including the Tall Ships’ Race, a food festival and an energy and petroleum conference, exhibition and festival.
‘During these festivals, which take place in the port area, there are a limited number of berths available for cruise ships and as a result some requests have had to be rejected,’ noted Bang-Andersen.
2019, however, will be a record breaking year in Stavanger. To date, the number of expected calls booked are up by 27% and guest numbers set to rise by 45%, year-on-year.
Apart from November this year, Stavanger will welcome cruise calls every month way into autumn 2020, Bang-Andersen told Seatrade Cruise News.
