Top cruise leaders to feature in FCCA workshops

A record 11 chairmen, presidents and/or CEOs of Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association member lines are going to be involved in workshops at the FCCA’s annual conference in November.

150 cruise line representatives

In all, 150 cruise line officials are registered for the event, Nov. 4-9, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan. They’ll join high-level government officials from across the region.

For the first time in the event’s 25-year history, cruise chairmen will participate in a ‘Chair Talk,’ while presidents and CEOs will appear in a separate ‘Presidential Address.’ Two further workshops involve other power players.

‘We could not be prouder to announce the workshops this year because they show the industry’s commitment to doing business with our partners in the Caribbean and Latin America,’ FCCA president Michele Paige said. ‘From the ultimate decision-makers to high-level executives that determine where ships call, what sells on board and how to invest in destinations and products, the cruise industry will truly be on hand—and focused on maximizing synergies and potential opportunities with the audience.’

Chair Talk

The participating chairmen of FCCA member lines—Micky Arison, chairman, Carnival Corp. & plc; Richard Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.; and Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman, MSC Cruises—will take the wheel following the morning opening ceremony on Nov. 6. During their ‘Chair Talk,’ they will shine the spotlight on cruise trends and developments.

Presidential Address

Presidents and CEOs will then take the stage later that afternoon in a ‘Presidential Address’ moderated by Michele Paige. They include Roberto Fusaro, president, MSC Cruises USA; Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International; Christine Duffy, president, Carnival Cruise Line; Jason Montague, president and CEO, Regent Seven Seas Cruises; and Andrew Stuart, president and CEO, Norwegian Cruise Line. Brand innovations and destination stakeholder partnerships will be among the topics.

‘Creating Great Destinations’ workshop

On Nov. 7, Carlos Torres de Navarra, VP, commercial port operations, Carnival Cruise Line, and chairman of the FCCA Operations Committee, will moderate ‘Creating Great Destinations: From Demand to Experiences, Ports to Tours.’ Panelists include Russell Daya, executive director, marine & port operations, port developments & itinerary planning, Disney Cruise Line; Matthew Sams, VP, Caribbean relations & private islands, Holland America Group; Albino Di Lorenzo, VP, cruise operations, MSC Cruises USA; Christine Manjencic, VP, destination services operations, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings; and Russell Benford, VP, government relations, Americas, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

They will share what draws passengers to destinations and creates unforgettable memories once there, and delve into how to increase demand and guest satisfaction from an overarching destination level to individual port, tour and transportation options.

‘Investing in Your Future’ workshop

The final workshop, ‘Investing in Your Future,’ on Nov. 8, will gather top representatives from both the cruise line and destination sides, including Adam Goldstein, vice chairman, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., and chairman, FCCA; Rick Sasso, chairman, MSC Cruises USA; Giora Israel, SVP global port development, Carnival Corp. & plc; St. Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, immediate past chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States; and Beverly Nicholson-Doty, commissioner of tourism, US Virgin Islands.

The panel will review ways that stakeholders are planning for the long term, and how this often involves partnerships—from port and destination developments, new attractions and even agreements preserving natural elements, to business continuity, emergency plans and best practices.
