World solo adventurist Laura Dekker has been announced as the godmother of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Hanseatic Inspiration. Dekker will officially name the ship at a ceremony hosted by science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar at the Port of Hamburg, October 11.

The cruise line has organised a special naming ceremony for the luxury 230-passenger ship. Attendees will embark on a combined actual and virtual expedition cruise and will follow the naming ceremony from Zodiacs on the water.

Intrepid exploration

Speaking of her expedition travels Dekker said: 'I have sailed more than 50,000 nautical miles and I am continuing to clock up more. I want to pass this spirit on to young people through my sailing project and to motivate and encourage them.'

Technical innovation

Hanseatic Inspiration will sail the Antarctic around Spitsbergen. The ice class passenger ship is rated PC6 and is fitted with cold ironing and an SCR catalytic converter.

This is the second of three new ships in the cruise line’s expedition fleet. The first, Hanseatic Nature, was launched in May.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expedition fleet will use low-pollutant marine gas oil fuel worldwide on all routes.
