The keel laying ceremony for Ryndam, Holland America Line’s newbuilding took place at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard in Venice on Thursday.

The first building block of the ship, 14mtr long, 34mtr wide and weighing more than 500 tons, is part of the central section of Ryndam, the fourteenth ship built for this brand by the Marghera shipyard, due for delivery in 2021. It will be the fourth ship in the company’s history to carry the name.

Like sisterships Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam, delivered respectively in March 2016 and 2018 from the same shipyard, the newbuild will be about 99,800gt, almost 300mtr long, with accommodation for 2,668 passengers on board in 1,340 cabins.

Architecture of music

The design will be created, as for the sister ships, by Tihany Design and Yran & Storbraaten, with ‘the architecture of music’ being an inspirational element for the design of many public areas.

Fincantieri has built 96 cruise ships since 1990 and another 50 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group's yards.
