'Despacito' singer Luis Fonsi is Norwegian Viva's godfather

Grammy-nominated and five-time Latin Grammy winner Luis Fonsi will serve as the godfather of Norwegian Viva.

Fonsi will preside at the ship's Nov. 28 christening festivities at PortMiami before Norwegian Viva begins service from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Latin stars lineup

Best known for his extensive list of radio hits including the global chart-topping 'Despacito,' Puerto Rican-born Fonsi will officially name Norwegian Viva then perform with a lineup of Latin stars including 'The Queen of Latin Pop' Paulina Rubio, 'Saturday Night Live' cast member and Miami-native Marcello Hernandez and singer Pedro Capó.

'Miami, our hometown, is immersed in Latin culture, and we want to celebrate Norwegian Viva’s debut with an infusion of Latin talent headlined by Luis,' Norwegian Cruise Line President David Herrera said. 'As a native Puerto Rican, who is also based in Miami, he brings people together from around the world with his energy, positivity and music, making him the perfect complement to the vibrant energy of Norwegian Viva.'

Itineraries

After completing its christening voyage, Norwegian Viva will become the newest ship to homeport from San Juan upon its Dec. 15 aarrival. Viva will operate weeklong cruises through April 2024 calling at Tortola, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, before returning to Europe for a summer season from Piraeus, Lisbon, Civitavecchia (Rome) and Trieste.
