A search and rescue operation off Sydney is underway following a ‘man overboard’ alarm raised on P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Adventure at 4 a.m. Monday.

A company statement said the ship, carrying more than 2,600 passengers, is searching for the passenger with other nearby vessels deployed to the area by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

Pacific Adventure’s arrival into White Bay has been delayed while the search continues.

The statement said the family of the missing passenger is being cared for by an onboard team.
