The ship was delivered in 2020, during the pandemic, when conditions weren't right to hold naming festivities. It has been operating for sister brand Nicko Cruises and will transfer to Atlas following a style refresh at WestSea Viana Shipyard.

Solo expedition to the South Pole

Preet Chandi gained international recognition in 2022 when she completed a solo expedition across Antarctica to the South Pole. In January this year, she further solidified her place in polar exploration history by recording the longest-ever solo and unsupported one-way polar ski expedition. Her accomplishments were acknowledged when she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2022 Birthday Honors.

Ushuaia festivities

World Voyager's naming festivities are scheduled for Nov. 8 in Ushuaia, Argentina, prior to the ship's inaugural voyage for Atlas, a nine-day 'Antarctic Discovery' expedition.

Chandra's 'incredible accomplishments in polar exploration align perfectly with our commitment to immersive and adventurous travel experiences,' Atlas Ocean Voyages President and CEO James Rodriguez said. 'We look forward to welcoming select travel partners and members of the media to join us in celebrating this historic event.'

During the 2023/24 Antarctica season, World Voyager will be sailing alongside sister ships World Traveller and World Navigator.

Atlas includes a pre-cruise hotel stay in Buenos Aires, and round-trip charter air service from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia.
