Arica Port Co. President Mario Moya Montenegro became president of Chile's Southern Cone Ports Corp. (Conosur).
This follows the resignation of Eduardo Arancibia Romo from the Conosur presidency due to the incompatibility with his recent appointment as regional director of the economic development agency CORFO in the Los Lagos region.
In accordance with Conosur's statutes, the board of directors appointed the vice president, Moya, as its new president.
The board thanked Arancibia for his accomplishments leading Conosur and his contribution to Chile's cruise industry.
Advocating for cruising's development
Moya welcomed the opportunity to continue working for cruising's development and said Conosur will coordinate with different public and private sector organizations to optimize Chile's presence at the 2025 Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, an important venue to showcase the country's attractions.
He also pledged to continue efforts with all the country's ports and their communities to advance an industry that contributes more than 300,000 visitors a year, generating local jobs.
Conosur, which aims to position Chile as an attractive and competitive destination for international cruise tourism, brings together the ports of Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, San Antonio, Talcahuano-San Vicente, Puerto Montt and Castro, Chacabuco and Punta Arenas (including Puerto Natales and Puerto Williams).
Further participants include the concessionaires of Puerto Valparaíso, Terminal Pacífico Sur and Terminal Portuario de Valparaíso S.A., the agents Inchcape Shipping Services and A.J. Broom and tour operator DMC Chile.
