Palmer first came out with the project in 2012 and, as reported here, said he had appointed Titanic historian Steve Hall, a foundation member of the Titanic & Steamship Historical Society of Australia, as design consultant.

New York and London dinners

On February 26, 2013, he hosted a global project launch for 500 guests at an 11-course black-tie dinner that featured dishes from the original ship, aboard the retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid in New York Harbour.

Another black-tie dinner followed at the Natural History Museum in London on March 12 that year.

However, the building of Titanic II never eventuated.

Previous partners

‘We are very pleased to announce that after unforeseen global delays we have re-engaged with partners to bring the dream of Titanic II to life,’ Palmer said during a news conference at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday

He said Finnish-based ship design and marine engineering company Deltamarin will undertake a review of the project and that V.Ships Leisure will be responsible for project support, building supervision and ship management services.

He did not name a shipyard.

‘The essence of this venture is to offer passengers an unparalleled journey back in time, immersing them in the opulence and splendour of life aboard the original Titanic,’ Palmer said.
