The book is based on advice he gave his daughter and son in the form of 36 common-sense tips with examples of how they applied his insights.

'Fast Start to Career Success' is designed to help young professionals make the most of their personal attributes, take advantage of challenges and opportunities, interact effectively and achieve work-life balance while managing career advancement.

Common-sense practices with immediate value

'Young people beginning their career in the cruise industry will find the book reveals common-sense practices that will instill habits of immediate value in their first job and throughout their career,' Kurtz said. 'The book provides insights that are not taught in school and that most parents rarely think to share from their own experience.'

A major theme, he continued, is the 'importance and methods of keeping your boss happy in order to be promoted and earn raises.'

Cruise line leader and management consultant

Kurtz, who was founding president of Sea Goddess Cruises after serving as SVP marketing and sales, Norwegian Cruise Line, went on to serve as chief operating officer of Windstar Cruises. He then established The Management Resource Group, which provides market research, strategic planning and interim management services to a wide range of major companies.

An expert in the affluent market, in 2001 Kurtz founded the American Affluence Research Center, which sells mailing lists of high net worth households. Earlier, he authored 'Market Research: Strategy and Techniques,' a book published by the American Marketing Association.

'Fast Start to Career Success' is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle versions.
