He will continue as Australian Cruise Association chair until September.
Capt. Philip Holliday leaves his position as CEO and director of the Port Authority of New South Wales at the end of the month.
Holliday, formerly the Sydney Harbour master, joined the Authority in 2011 and took up his current role in December 2019.
He has been responsible for the navigation, security and operational safety of commercial trade and cruise shipping in Sydney Harbour, Port Botany, Newcastle Harbour, Port Kembla, Eden and Yamba.
Southampton
He is originally from the UK where he served with Associated British Ports and was harbour master for the Port of Southampton and marine advisor for 21 ports.
On moving to Australia, Holliday became chair of Ports Australia’s Port Operations Working Group and took a lead role in the development of the Australian Port Marine Safety Management Guidelines.
Mission to Seafarers Life Member
This month Holliday was presented with Life Membership of the Mission to Seafarers.
His work to establish the A$2.5m New South Wales Seafarer Welfare Fund was recognised by MTS chair Robert Dunn who said his contribution has not only made NSW a global leader in seafarer welfare, but has also provided a model for other ports to follow.
ACA chair
Australian Cruise Association CEO Jill Abel said that, while the Port Authority of NSW will remain on the ACA board, Holliday has been appointed as an independent director and chair through to its annual general meeting next September.
‘We are delighted to have Philip’s continued leadership and dedication as we move forward together,’ Abel said.
