Taking up the newly-created role is Hugh Cavill who has extensive experience working as a senior policy and strategy advisor in state government, tourism and transport.

Cavill has worked for several NSW Ministers, including former New South Wales  Deputy Premier Paul Toole.

He was an advisor to former NSW tourism ministers Adam Marshall and George Souris and assisted in creating the NSW Cruise Development Plan.

Reinforcing industry’s standing

CLIA Australasia MD Joel Katz said the appointment will reinforce the cruise industry’s standing among governments and destinations across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

‘The international cruise industry is a major generator of employment and economic opportunities in Australasia and our engagement with governments will be increasingly important as we work to develop sustainability into the future,’ Katz said.

Based in CLIA Australasia’s Sydney regional headquarters, Cavill will work closely with cruise line leaders and industry stakeholders to represent the interests of the Australasian cruise sector to governments and the wider business community.
