During her 11 years in the position at Galaport Istanbul, Ayan led on the building of the $1.7b Turkish port’s state-of-the art cruise facility - the world’s first underground terminal building with a unique hatch system creating a temporary customs area and security area when ships are berthed.

Under her leadership, Istanbul transformed to a premier cruise destination and homeport in the Mediterranean.

From concept to operation

Ayan oversaw the project from concept to operation, while mastering the intricacies of port management, governmental and stakeholder relations and sustainable tourism practices.

Working alongside a dedicated team of maritime professionals whom she assembled and mentored, she built a port operation that has set new benchmarks for operational excellence in the cruise industry. Throughout her career, she has fostered deep relationships with cruise line executives, industry leaders and government officials worldwide, creating a robust network.

Authorized European Commission Expert

‘This extensive hands-on experience has uniquely positioned me for this next chapter, where I want to spread my expertise to emerging markets or destinations,' explained Ayan, who is also recognised by the European Union as an authorized European Commission Expert in sustainable maritime and cruise tourism.

‘This new venture builds directly on the strategic insights and global perspectives I've developed during my three decades in the tourism industry and offering comprehensive consultancy services specializing in cruise port development, destination management and philanthropic activities.’

Honorary MedCruise President

More recently Ayan completed a three-year term as MedCruise president leading the port association to be now its honorary president — ‘as I move forward, I remain deeply committed to advancing our industry through collaborations that drive both innovation and what I call "holistic sustainability" — an approach that harmonizes economic development, environmental stewardship and social responsibility,’ she commented.
