February is the month of love and, for the first time in Antarctica, couples were legally joined in matrimony thanks to Atlas Ocean Voyages.

Courtnie Dodson and Brody Vermillion exchanged vows Feb. 18 on Danko Island during a 15-minute ceremony officiated by British Antarctic Territory-registered Marriage Officer Bryan Clark and witnessed by eight additional guests.

Four weddings and three vow renewals

Throughout World Navigator's current nine-night Antarctica expedition, which departed Feb. 14, Atlas performed four weddings and three vow renewals in four days.

Known as 'Happy Ever Atlas,' the destination wedding package was complimentary for guests who registered in advance.

'We are happy to perform the very first official weddings in Antarctica, not just ceremonial as often happens,' Atlas President Alberto Aliberti said. 'Atlas Ocean Voyages prides ourselves in delivering luxury adventures in remote and captivating destinations and Happy Ever Atlas is perhaps the most adventurous destination-wedding experience to date.'

Official UK marriage license, recognized by US

Each couple received an included official UK marriage license, valued at more than $650, which is also recognized by the US government. World Navigator held separate bachelorette and bachelor group parties and hosted a shipwide wedding reception. The package also included a wedding cake, digital photo package, gift bag, custom nuptial announcements and thank you cards.

Following this inaugural season, World Navigator will return to Antarctica for the 2022/23 season along with sister ship World Traveller, debuting in November.
