Holland America veteran Sally Andrews joins CLIA in VP role

Former Holland America Line SVP Sally Andrews joined Cruise Lines International Association as VP strategic communications & public affairs (North America).

She reports to Anne Madison, SVP global marketing & strategic communications, and will be based in Seattle.

'Sally's extensive communications and cruise experience make her uniquely qualified to support CLIA's strategic priorities, which include increasing efforts to tell the positive story of cruise to policy-makers and other key opinion leaders through government affairs, public policy leadership, direct engagement with stakeholders as well as media relations, and to foster an even closer community that shares the same interest in supporting the cruise industry. We are excited to have her on board,' CLIA President/CEO Kelly Craighead said.

Expanded role

In this expansion of an existing role that has been open since last year, Andrews leads the development and implementation of strategies for internal and external stakeholder communications, industry engagement, media relations, issues and crisis management, channel optimization (owned and third-party), content and messaging development, executive communications, social media, public affairs and reputation-related event strategies.

She also serves as a liaison with influencer organizations and grassroots champions, collaborating with CLIA government affairs' efforts with the executive and legislative branches.

In addition, Andrews leads strategic efforts of the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation.

Her primary focus is on North America, though she'll also provide support for CLIA’s global efforts.

More than 16 years at Holland America Line

Andrews spent more than 16 years in leadership positions at Holland America Line, with her last role as SVP and chief communications officer. She oversaw public relations, global media relations, corporate and internal communications, community relations, social responsibility, reputation and crisis management, social media, partnerships, events and marketing communications.

Earlier Andrews held leadership posts in other industries including technology, financial services, telecommunications, insurance and at agencies overseeing Fortune 500 accounts. She has led the development of award-winning campaigns and high-profile initiatives for consumer and business audiences.
