John Mawer named GM for Liverpool Cruise Port
Global Ports Holding appointed John Mawer the new GM for Liverpool Cruise Port, the company’s latest acquisition and first UK port.
Previously the head of cruise and operations at Cruise Liverpool, Mawer will oversee the development and management of Liverpool Cruise Port, a key component in GPH's expansion within the Northern Europe region. Reporting directly to GPH COO Stephen Xuereb, he will play a pivotal role in enhancing the port's operations and service offerings.
‘We are delighted to welcome John Mawer to the Global Ports Holding family,’ Xuereb stated. ‘John's extensive experience and proven leadership in the maritime sector make him an invaluable addition to our team. We are confident that his deep knowledge of the sector in the region will contribute significantly towards further establishing Liverpool as a thriving cruise destination.’
Two decades’ maritime experience
Mawer, who has over two decades of extensive maritime and port management experience, currently serves as the chair for the UK & Ireland regions of Cruise Europe and is a director for the Liverpool and Manchester Port Security Authority.
His career began with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, where he held several senior leadership positions, including port operations: training manager and company security officer.
In 2017, he transitioned to the cruise sector, serving as cruise manager at Liverpool Cruise Terminal.
‘I look forward to the continued success of Liverpool Cruise Port and am very excited to be a part of the Global Ports Holding team,’ Mawer stated. ‘This port has immense potential, and I look forward to working to enhance its operations and deliver exceptional experiences for our passengers and partners through collaboration with all of our Liverpool stakeholders.’
