Mark Robinson has left Scenic Group where he was SVP cruise operations working across the company’s river and ocean yacht divisions.

He joined Scenic in early 2022.

'Taking some time out'

Robinson, who has more than 36 years’ experience within the cruise industry, told Seatrade Cruise News he is ‘taking some time out’ after a busy schedule these past 14 months overseeing the day-to-day operations of Scenic Group’s river and ocean yacht fleet, as well as directing the transitioning of the company’s newbuilds into operation.

‘I have really enjoyed my time with Scenic and learnt a lot managing 11 direct reports across all aspects of the ocean and river cruise operations. I am leaving an amazing team of professionals,’ Robinson said.

Growing fleet

During his tenure,  the company’s fleet grew to three ocean ships as Scenic recently took delivery of 114-suite Scenic Eclipse II from 3 Maj Shipyard in Rijeka. The yacht is currently sailing on her maiden voyage from Lisbon to Barcelona. She joined Scenic Eclipse and 100-passenger Emerald Azzurra which debuted for the Emerald Cruises brand last year.

Robinson recently oversaw the preparation of Scenic’s 18-vessel river cruise fleet for the launch of the 2023 season.

Emerald Cruises' second yacht, Emerald Sakara, is due to enter service in August.

Experience at Cruise Saudi, GPH, Intercruises

Prior to Scenic Group, Robinson, 58, spent nearly a year working as chief commercial and operations officer at Cruise Saudi and before that three years as chief commercial/head of business development at Global Port Holdings.

His cruise and tourism experience includes 27 years with TUI & First Choice Group, where he was involved in the start-up and growth of Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services as CEO, taking it from a single port operator to operating more than 500 ports globally.

Robinson concluded, ‘I love the cruise industry and want to stay in it but for now it’s time to reflect before looking for the next move.’
