Simon Biles has 'risen to the occasion and overcome challenges time and time again. She is an inspiration,' Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said
Trailblazing gymnast Simone Biles, 19-time World Champion and seven-time Olympic medalist, will serve as the godmother for Celebrity Beyond.

She will perform the traditional naming duties at a Nov. 4 ceremony at Port Everglades.

Transformational Edge godmothers

For its groundbreaking Edge ships, Celebrity Cruises has been selecting transformational and courageous godmothers who are breaking barriers and championing change in their respective fields. Biles joins Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, the godmother of Celebrity Edge, and Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and the Marshall Plan for Moms, the godmother of Celebrity Apex.

G.O.A.T. with the courage to speak out

'Simone is truly the G.O.A.T inside and outside of the gym, and I'm humbled and thrilled to welcome her as godmother of our newest ship Celebrity Beyond,' Celebrity President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said. 'While I've marveled at her abilities and historic accomplishments as a gymnast, it's Simone's courage to speak out and her ability to help others be better in sport and in life that has impressed me the most. She has risen to the occasion and overcome challenges time and time again. She is an inspiration.'

For her part, Biles cited 'a lot of great memories of cruising with my parents while growing up, so I am beyond excited to serve as godmother of Celebrity Beyond.'

Celebrity Beyond began its inaugural season on April 27 with a 10-night cruise from Southampton to Barcelona and will now spend the summer sailing nine- to 10-night Mediterranean itineraries. The ship will then reposition to Florida for its naming ceremony and a winter season of five- to nine-night Caribbean cruises from Port Everglades.
